How can I be confident in uncertain times?

No teacher can predict how their lessons will go. No teacher can determine how much progress their students will make. No teacher will be 100% sure what the best approach is to be most successful. Evidently teaching is inevitably uncertain. 

Uncertainty can be extremely troubling for teachers, piling on unnecessary extra stress.

Next time you find yourself in times of uncertainty, try this mindful and meditative approach that has been designed to support you and help you return to a state of calm and clarity. 

It’s important that we embrace uncertainty and don’t see it as failing. Simply understand that all plans fall under a huge backdrop of unpredictability. It’s important to let go of the idea of being able to control certainty in your life and instead, shift your focus. 

Move away from controlling your outcomes, which is near impossible to learning new processes and habits. Take a moment out of your day to relax and rewind. Start by taking 5 slow deep breaths. Breathe in for calm and breathe out for release. Gently focus on the natural rhythms of your body, think about each part of your body from your toes to the top of your head. 

Within your mind create the image of a beautiful open landscape and work through each of your senses. What are the sounds, smells, sights, textures you can see? Relax your mind and take your body to a relaxing place.

A top tip from us is to allow yourself to relax and remember that uncertainty is normal, it’s important to ensure you’re taking the time out of your day to pause and reflect. No one can control the outcomes, learn to live fearlessly. You teachers are doing an amazing job, always remember that!
